Like a dreamcatcher, HB is my bugcatcher
As you remembered, one of the things I hoped the cat would do was to catch city bugs which I hate. Since HB came into the house, I haven't seen many bugs. A few in the past few months and most of which is on the second floor, out of the cat's reach.
A couple of days ago, I saw one of those horrible bugs with infinite legs on the wall above our 12 inch Christmas Tree. I was afraid... VERY AFRAID. Dave wasn't home from work yet to save my day. This is my usual response to bugs... "DAVE!!!! Can you get the bug on the wall *pointing nervously at the bug, while turning my head away from it*" The next best thing was to have the cat do the dirty work. I picked up HB and lifted her to the height of the bug and pushed her face as close to the bug as possible to get her attention or smell it (?? I don't know if cats can smell bugs) After a couple of seconds, the bug got her attention and her eyes are fixated on the bug. EXCELLENT!!! (My plan is working) Then I placed HB on the floor and removed the Christmas tree from the radiator shelf so she can start doing her thing. She immediately jumped onto the shelf and attacked the bug. I missed the next few seconds of what happened while I went to get the camera. I saw her carrying the bug in her mouth and jumped on the floor. She set the bug down and batted around with it... I think it was dead before it came down onto the floor. Poor BUG.
Mission accomplished.
I have occasionally watched HB bat around bugs, but she's not careful with her razor-sharp nails and kill the bugs before it had a chance to "play".
